Classic soul for modern cinema

Zeiss Aatma lenses blend vintage character with modern precision

Zeiss has announced new high-end set of nine full-frame T1.5 cinema primes designed to blend modern optical engineering with the nostalgic rendering style of classic glass.

The Aatma range covers focal lengths from 18mm to 135mm (18, 25, 35, 40, 50, 65, 85, 100 and 135mm), offering cinematographers a fast, cohesive set built for contemporary full-frame production. Inspired by some of Zeiss’ most celebrated 20th-century lenses, Aatma aims to deliver an expressive, emotion-driven look while maintaining the consistency and reliability expected on today’s sets.

Optically, the lenses are designed to produce softer skin rendering with reduced contrast, smooth focus transitions and rich bokeh with a subtle “soap bubble” character. The result is a nostalgic yet refined aesthetic that enhances texture and atmosphere without sacrificing control or repeatability.

Mechanically, Aatma retains Zeiss’ established premium cine form factor, ensuring familiar ergonomics across the set. All lenses feature Zeiss eXtended Data (XD) technology and full integration with the CinCraft ecosystem, supporting modern workflows including VFX, camera tracking and virtual production.

The Aatma primes are available individually or as a complete set, with deliveries expected to begin in June 2026.

Zeiss also confirmed its upcoming Panoptes 65 series for large-format cameras, covering 25mm to 180mm at T2.2 and designed for 65mm sensor formats. No prices have been set.
