New Canon RF 20mm F1.4 announced

Posted on Mar 28, 2025 by Pro Moviemaker

Canon has announced the launch of the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM super-fast lens, expanding its RF hybrid prime range

Aimed at professionals working across photography and video, Canon says the lens is designed to offer flexibility, image quality and consistent performance.

The full-frame 20mm focal length paired with a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture allows for wide-angle coverage and strong low-light capability.

With a 94° diagonal field of view and a minimum focusing distance of 0.2 metres, the lens supports a broad range of creative framing options.

Optical performance is supported by a combination of specialised elements, including Aspheric, Super UD and Blue Spectrum Refractive components. An 11-blade circular aperture is included to deliver smooth background blur and highlight rendering.

For video applications, the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM includes a Voice Coil Motor designed to provide quiet, accurate autofocus with reduced focus breathing. A dedicated Iris Ring offers fine control over aperture changes, allowing gradual adjustments during filming.

The lens maintains physical consistency with Canon’s other f/1.4L hybrid primes, with shared dimensions, filter thread size and colour characteristics, which may help streamline multi-lens workflows. It features L-series build quality with weather sealing and weighs 519g.

The lens will be available for £1,919.99 with shipping dates yet to be confirmed. For more information visit the Canon website.
