Nikon adds fast macro and wide-angle zoom to Nikkor Z DX

Posted on Oct 27, 2025 by Nicole Tilby

Two new lenses have been added to Nikon’s Nikkor Z DX range, helping filmmakers capture both close-ups and wider shots

Nikon expands the Nikkor Z DX lens lineup with two fast, high-performance lenses. The 16-50mm f/2.8 VR wide-angle zoom and 35mm f/1.7 macro are designed to deliver sharp detail. Compact and sealed, these DX Z Mount lenses work comfortably when capturing videos.

The Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR is the first f/2.8 DX zoom lens to join the Nikon Z family. This lens is made to perform well in low light and allows for fast shutter speeds. Its 16-50mm range is ideal for a variety of projects. With built-in 5-stop VR image stabilisation, handheld shots remain steady. Meanwhile, close-up focusing adds framing flexibility.

Also joining the Nikon Z lineup is the first DX Micro lens, the Nikkor Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7. Filmmakers who want to experiment with close-up and low-light shots will appreciate this macro prime. The 0.67x maximum reproduction ratio (equivalent to 1:1 life-size magnification in 35mm/FX format) is designed to reveal subject detail normally too small to see. Beyond macro, this lens makes a great choice for artful everyday projects.

Both lenses share features that make them precise and easy to use. With quiet autofocus and silent control rings, filmmakers can make unobtrusive adjustments. The compact and lightweight builds of the lenses also make them comfortable to handle during long shoots, and dust- and drip-resistant designs ensure reliability on the move. Each lens also comes with a hood to help minimise flare and stray light.

Dirk Jasper, product manager at Nikon Europe, commented on the double launch. “Our customers have been asking for more DX Z lenses, and we’ve been listening. With the introduction of a high-performance f/2.8 zoom lens and a fast macro lens, DX camera owners get two great opportunities to take the next step in their creative journey.”

Both lenses will be available from 30th October 2025, with the Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR priced at £799 / €929 and the Nikkor Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 at £399 / €469.
