Pro Moviemaker’s Gear of the Year Awards are back for 2025 and, once again, it’s time to celebrate the very best filmmaking hardware, software and services in the industry.
Now in their ninth year, these awards are the gold standard of recognition for professional video equipment – a true benchmark of quality and performance. They’re coveted by manufacturers across the globe because they’re awarded by the people who matter most: pro filmmakers and creators who use the kit day in, day out.
Real-world innovation, durability and value are honoured – whether it’s a breakthrough new release or workhorse that’s proven itself over time.
The Pro Moviemaker team has once again curated a shortlist comprising the most impressive products and services of the past year. From cameras and glass to lighting, audio, editing tools, stabilisers and support, everything on the list has earned its place. Now it’s your turn.
The centrepiece is, of course, the camera. That’s why we place special focus on those categories covering everything from mirrorless hybrids to cinema cameras and PTZ units.
To reflect the industry’s growing move towards content creation, podcasting and streaming, we have two brand-new classes this time out. One is for cameras designed specifically for content creators, while the other recognises hardware that supports video podcasting or live streaming.
Of course, filmmaking is about more than just the tools in your hands. Behind every great production are trusted service providers – rental houses, retailers of new and used gear and repair specialists – that help keep shoots on track. That’s why we have also included categories to honour these industry heroes.
Voting is open now, so if you’ve bought, rented or relied on a piece of gear this year, your opinion matters. You don’t need to vote in every category – just those where you want to share your view. It only takes a few minutes via our quick online survey, and helps decide who takes home the most respected awards in the filmmaking world.
While the public vote determines the big winners, we also shine a spotlight on a few standout products through our Editor’s Choice awards. These honour gear that’s pushed boundaries, raised standards or solved real-world problems in key areas. It’s our opportunity to highlight special innovation and real-world brilliance that deserves wider recognition.
How to vote for Gear of the Year 2025
Voting is simple – and you don’t even have to register. The survey is up now and will run until 1 September, so you’ve got plenty of time to consider what you want to pick.

You can vote in as few or as many categories as you like, and it doesn’t have to be all of them. Everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw, and the first name pulled out at random will win a case of wine.
