Canon reveals EOS R6 III and fast prime

Posted on Nov 6, 2025 by Adam Duckworth

Canon’s latest launch pairs a fast, high-resolution hybrid full-frame camera with a bright and affordable 45mm f/1.2 lens

Canon has unveiled two major additions to its EOS R lineup – the EOS R6 Mark III and the RF 45mm F1.2 STM – delivering a fresh combination of power, speed and creativity for photographers and filmmakers alike.

The £2800 EOS R6 Mark III is the upgraded version of the R6 Mark II, offering significant upgrades in resolution, tracking and connectivity. It’s built around a 32.5-megapixel full-frame sensor, paired with 40fps electronic shutter and up to 150-shot RAW bursts when using CFexpress cards. Aimed at enthusiasts and professionals covering everything from wildlife and sports to weddings and portraits, the R6 Mark III blends speed, precision and durability in a compact, weather-resistant body.

Its enhanced autofocus system features new subject recognition modes for trains, planes and horses, alongside Canon’s clever Register People Priority for tracking up to ten pre-selected faces. A pre-continuous shooting mode captures 20 frames before the shutter is pressed, ensuring decisive moments are never missed.

For filmmaking, the R6 Mark III offers a powerful toolkit: 7K RAW Light recording at up to 60p, oversampled 4K 60p for cinematic detail and 4K 120p for slow-motion sequences. With Open Gate capture, creators can reframe easily for different platforms, while pro features such as waveform monitoring, proxies, metadata tagging and full-size HDMI make it equally at home in production environments.

The camera supports dual card slots (CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD), Wi-Fi 5GHz and Bluetooth 5.1, offering smooth file transfers and remote control options.

Launched alongside it, the £480 RF 45mm F1.2 STM brings Canon’s widest aperture yet to the enthusiast range. Weighing just 346g, it’s Canon’s lightest f/1.2 lens to date – a compact, affordable option that opens new creative possibilities for low-light shooting and dreamy shallow depth of field.

The lens features an STM autofocus motor, 9-blade aperture and focus breathing correction compatibility, making it ideal for both stills and video. With a minimum focus distance of 45cm and a 67mm filter thread, it’s a practical, everyday creative tool.
