EIZO releases 31.5-inch 4K HDR OLED Monitor

Posted on Sep 1, 2026 by Pro Moviemaker

EIZO Corporation have introduced the ColorEdge CG3200X – a 31.5-inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) colour management OLED monitor with unique luminance and contrast control for HDR post-production. Designed for workflows mastered in HLG, PQ, or SDR, it delivers ColorEdge-class precision for reliable results throughout the post-production pipeline.

Modern post-production places increasing importance on precise contrast control and high dynamic range, where image integrity depends on accurately rendering both shadow detail and highlights. These demands require display technologies that enable creators to evaluate fine luminance differences and tonal continuity with confidence. The CG3200X is the first OLED model in the ColorEdge family, bringing decades of colour management expertise to QD-OLED technology. With a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m2, full screen white brightness of 300 cd/m2, and typical contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1, it faithfully reproduces both bright highlights and deep shadows.

HDR OLED monitors offer exceptional peak brightness and contrast, but because each pixel emits its own light, bright scenes place higher demands on power and heat management. To protect the panel, conventional OLED displays rely on Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL), which reduces overall luminance as more of the screen becomes bright, often causing visible shifts in tone and colour. To minimize these effects, EIZO developed a new, unique ABL control system for the CG3200X that supports higher luminance thresholds, sustaining brightness across more of the image before dimming occurs.

Even when ABL engages, editors can optimize luminance handling with a choice of two dimming modes, allowing flexibility to suit different project requirements. Highlight Dimming reduces brightness only in the most luminous areas, preserving detail and tonal integrity in mid- and low-luminance regions. Uniform Dimming adjusts brightness evenly across the entire screen for consistent overall luminance. To support accurate highlight evaluation, the ABL Safe View function reduces the display area to 10% or 25%, lowering the average brightness and reducing the likelihood of ABL activation. This allows creators to preview content at its intended brightness without automatic dimming. Additional ABL control features include a luminance warning that clearly indicates ABL-affected areas, and a front bezel indicator that shows when ABL is active, providing clear visibility and precise control for confident HDR evaluation.

Since SDR content is typically created for displays with contrast ratios between 1000:1 to 2000:1, it can appear differently on OLED monitors with significantly higher contrast. The CG3200X allows users to set a custom contrast ratio from 500:1 to 2000:1 in 100-step increments, ensuring a more accurate and controlled representation of SDR content and supporting consistent results across viewing environments.

High-contrast edges in text and fine details can also exhibit color fringing on conventional OLED monitors. The CG3200X has a dedicated correction circuit to suppress these artifacts, resulting in cleaner, more natural edge reproduction.

To ensure long-term color precision, the monitor is equipped with EIZO’s built-in calibration sensor, eliminating the need for an external device. Compared to previous models, the sensor’s design has been refined for quieter operation.
