Samyang announces Mk2 versions of manual focus lenses

Posted on May 29, 2020 by Pro Moviemaker

The new MF 14mm F2.8 Mk2 and MF 85mm F1.4 Mk2 lenses will be available in 6 different mounts, Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon M and MFT

New MF 14mm F2.8 Mk2

The Samyang MF 14mm F2.8 Mk2 is an wide-angle, manual-focus lens. The 115.7˚ wide angle of view is ideal for shooting landscapes, interiors, astro-photography etc. and the attached lens hood blocks unwanted light so you can shoot as you wish.

Main features

Focus Lock & De-click Aperture Option

The MF 14mm F2.8 Mk2 includes two new features: “Focus Lock” & “De-click”. Now you can lock the focus ring at a specific point, improving precision and repeatability, especially useful in astrophotography and time-lapse shots. The de-clicked aperture option allows for fine adjustment between F-stops. By rotating the silver ring from ‘Click’ to ‘Free’, you can adjust the aperture precisely, to ensure the right amount of light is captured.

Bokeh – 9 Aperture Blades

In terms of bokeh performance, the 9-rounded aperture blades help to achieve smooth out of focus backgrounds. The 9 aperture blades also provide defined sunstars when the aperture is stopped-down.

Exterior Design

The MF 14mm F2.8 Mk2 has a consistent and balanced exterior design of body and lenshood. There is also a new micro-pattern texture on the rubber focus ring which provides comfortable, positive handling.

Wide-Angle of View (115.7˚)

With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.28m (0.92ft) and its 115.7˚ angle of view, this lens allows users to create compositions that emphasize dramatic perspective, which is unique for ultra-wide-angle lenses.

14 Elements in 10 Groups (1 ASP, 1 Hybrid ASP, 1 ED, 3 HR) with UMC

The MF 14mm F2.8 Mk2 features a total of 14 elements in 10 groups. These include 3 High Refractive, 1 Hybrid Aspherical, 1 Aspherical and 2 Extra-low Dispersion elements. The special optical design adjusts the light path through the lens for clear and vibrant images and also corrects chromatic aberration.

Usability / Weather sealing

Environmental seals are located around the lens mount area to prevent infiltration of moisture and/or rain drops. This feature provides an additional layer of protection when shooting outdoors under adverse weather conditions.

Main Features

De-click Aperture Option

The MF 85mm F1.4 Mk2 features a de-clicked aperture option which allows  fine adjustment between F-stops. By rotating the silver ring from ‘Click’ to ‘Free’, you can adjust the aperture smoothly, to ensure exactly the right amount of light is captured.

9 Aperture Blades

The 9-rounded aperture blades help to achieve good bokeh performance, with smooth out of focus backgrounds. The 9 aperture blades also provide defined ‘sunstars’ when the aperture is stopped-down.

9 Elements in 7 Groups (1 Hybrid ASP) with UMC

The new MF 85mm F1.4 Mk2 features a total of 9 elements in 7 groups. Samyang’s optical design uses a Hybrid Aspherical lens element, to minimise spherical aberration and distortion, for sharp image quality.
