Sony’s new Z300 handheld camcorder sets a fresh benchmark for 4K acquisition with AI-driven subject tracking, advanced networking and world-first video authentication tools
Sony has announced its new flagship handheld camcorder, the Z300 – a compact XDCAM model designed to meet the demands of broadcast, documentary and field production. Equipped with three 1/2-inch 4K Exmor R CMOS sensors and the latest BIONZ XR processing engine, the Z300 delivers exceptional image quality with high sensitivity, a 17x optical zoom and robust manual control.
Tailored for pro shooters on the move, the camera features a new flexible LCD arm to aid on-the-shoulder shooting, electronic variable ND and a side V-mount ideal for mounting data transmitters or smartphones as well as batteries.
On the software side, it boasts AI-powered subject recognition, auto-framing and remote control via Sony’s Monitor & Control app.
In a world-first, the Z300 includes digital signature recording for authentication – a major innovation for newsrooms needing verifiable footage. It also supports 5G workflows, HEVC proxy files and live streaming protocols like RTMP and SRT for real-time broadcasting.
The PXW-Z300 records in multiple pro formats including XAVC Intra and MPEG HD422, and supports a range of creative looks including S-Cinetone and custom 3D LUTs. Audio recording extends to four channels via XLR and Multi Interface shoe support.
