Sony unleashes faster CFexpress Type A cards

Posted on Jul 15, 2025 by Adam Duckworth

New 1920GB and 960GB cards deliver blazing speeds for fast workflows

Sony has expanded its professional media lineup with two powerful new CFexpress Type A memory cards designed for high-end video and stills production: the CEA-G1920T (1920GB) and CEA-G960T (960GB). These next-generation cards offer class-leading performance, ultra-fast read/write speeds and massive storage capacity – ideal for Cinema Line and Alpha mirrorless camera users tackling 4K and high-frame-rate video shoots.

Compatible with CFexpress 4.0, the cards boast read speeds exceeding 1800MB/s – more than twice the speed of Sony’s previous generation – ensuring super-fast data transfers and dramatically reduced turnaround times for post-production. With VPG400 (Video Performance Guarantee) certification, they maintain stable 400MB/s minimum write speeds, making them perfect for capturing long-form 4K video, high-resolution RAW stills and continuous high-speed bursts without dropped frames.

The cards are supported by Sony’s new MRW-G3 card reader, which unlocks their full potential by enabling lightning-fast data transfers to your editing workstation. This streamlined workflow is a major time-saver for content creators who need to offload large volumes of data quickly and efficiently.

They’re engineered to withstand the rigours of professional use with resistance to heat, shock and heavy workloads.
