Sigma’s latest Contemporary zoom is the first to span 20mm ultra-wide to 200mm telephoto
Sigma has broken new ground with the launch of the £799 20-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Contemporary, the world’s first 10x zoom lens starting at an ultra-wide 20mm for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Available in Sony E-mount and L-Mount, it delivers unmatched versatility in a remarkably compact package.
Covering focal lengths from 20mm to 200mm, this lens is designed to handle almost any subject – from sweeping landscapes and architectural interiors to portraits, sports and wildlife. A maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 between 28mm and 85mm even brings half-macro shooting into play, perfect for detailed close-ups without switching lenses.
Despite its ambitious range, the lens weighs just 550g and measures 115.5mm in length, making it a highly portable option for travel and everyday photography. Inside, an optical design incorporating four aspherical, one FLD and three SLD glass elements ensures sharpness and control of aberrations across the zoom range.
Autofocus is driven by Sigma’s HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), delivering fast, quiet and accurate performance for both stills and video. Practical touches include a zoom lock switch to prevent lens creep, a dust- and splash-resistant structure, and oil- and water-repellent coatings for confidence in demanding conditions.
Sigma’s engineers have also worked to minimise flare and ghosting, ensuring clarity even when shooting in strong backlight.
