Sony launches FE 50-150mm F2 GM

Posted on Apr 23, 2025 by Pro Moviemaker

Sony stretches the limits with the world’s first 150mm max telephoto zoom

The FE 50-150mm F2 GM is a groundbreaking lens and the latest addition to Sony’s acclaimed G Master series. Designed for wedding, portrait, indoor sports, photo and video professionals, the lens offers high resolution, smooth bokeh and video-friendly features in a compact build.

Image quality

A clever internal optical design plays a crucial role in producing exceptional image quality. The lens integrates two XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and three ED elements to ensure high-contrast imagery across the entire zoom range.

The constant F2 aperture also creates smooth bokeh, helping to isolate subjects with a shallow depth of field. Meanwhile, Nano AR Coating II keeps flare and ghosting in check.

Autofocus performance

Equipped with four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and Sony’s advanced control algorithms, the FE 50-150mm F2 GM delivers quiet autofocus. With a speedy AF system and a versatile 50-150 mm zoom range, the lens excels at capturing fast-paced indoor sports, portraits and events.

Handling and build

Designed with filmmakers in mind, the lens’s internal zoom design maintains stability even while zooming while mounted on gimbals. Additionally, the FE 50-150mm F2 GM features a robust dust- and moisture-resistant design, which is easy to clean.

Pricing and availability

The FE 50-150mm F2 GM will be available at the beginning of June 2025 for £3800 / €4400.
