Tamron marks 75 years with new 25-200mm

Tamron has announced the development of a wider superzoom for Sony full-frame mirrorless

Tamron has announced the development of the 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 , a next-generation all-in-one zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. The lens is due to arrive in autumn 2025, with pricing to be confirmed.

Launched as the successor to the acclaimed 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD, the new G2 model represents Tamron’s latest innovation as it celebrates its 75th anniversary. The lens expands the wide end of the zoom range to 25mm while retaining the long 200mm reach, all in a compact, travel-friendly body.

A fast f/2.8 aperture at the wide end makes it versatile for low-light shooting, while Tamron’s VXD linear motor delivers faster, more precise autofocus that’s ideal for subjects in motion such as pets, sports or street photography. The lens also impresses up close, with a 1:1.9 magnification ratio at 25mm that allows for half life-size macro photography.

Designed for portability without compromise, the G2 lens features improved image quality, smoother zoom and focus rings, and a unified 67mm filter thread shared across most Tamron lenses. It is also compatible with the Tamron Lens Utility software for personalisation and easy firmware updates.
