Tamron expands its Z-mount range with the 70-180mm F/2.8 G2, completing its fast-aperture zoom trio

As the Tamron distributor for the UK and Ireland, Transcontinenta UK Ltd has announced the development of the Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (Model A065). This lens is a fast-aperture telephoto zoom designed for Nikon Z mount full-frame cameras.

With this announcement, Tamron is expanding the availability of the 70-180mm F/2.8 VC G2, previously announced in 2023 for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. This new lens combines Tamron’s proprietary Vibration Compensation image stabilisation mechanism with a compact design.

At the wide end, this lens achieves a Minimum Object Distance of just 0.3m. For autofocus, the 70-180mm F/2.8 G2 features Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, delivering quietness and responsiveness for high-speed autofocusing.

Additionally, the lens supports Tamron Lens Utility, Tamron’s dedicated software developed in-house. This software can be used to customise functions based on various shooting styles for filmmaking.

The fast Tamron G2 trinity is now complete with the 16-30mm, 28-75mm and 70-180mm F/2.8 zoom lenses. Even when carried together, they weigh just 1.8kg, offering pro-level performance in a portable setup.

With the addition of the 70-180mm F/2.8 G2, the total number of Tamron lenses for the Nikon Z-mount rises to nine. This product will be available from the end of October 2025 at Tamron retailers in the UK and Ireland for £999.99 / €1149.99 including VAT.
