Have your say in the tenth annual Pro Moviemaker Gear of the Year Awards, which celebrate the industry’s leading kit and services
It’s been a decade since the Pro Moviemaker Gear of the Year Awards were launched to give working filmmakers the chance to celebrate the products, brands and services that define modern filmmaking. These awards have become one of the most respected benchmarks for video equipment, and of course are back for 2026.
Unlike many awards decided behind closed doors, our Gear of the Year Awards are chosen by the people who actually use the kit. From solo shooters and content creators to production companies and working professionals, these awards reflect the tools filmmakers trust most.
The filmmaking landscape is evolving rapidly, and this year’s awards reflect that shift. Alongside our established categories covering lots of cameras, lenses, lighting, audio, support gear, storage, software and accessories, we’ve added new categories designed for today’s creator economy.
To start, the camcorder class has been replaced by live streaming∕broadcast hardware, which of course also includes streaming camcorders. Then, to reflect the industry’s move towards content creators, podcasting and streaming, we have expanded some categories this year. There’s a new class for speciality content creator cameras, such as action cameras or drones, as well as a class for hardware ideal for video podcasting. We have also introduced a class for editing∕workflow hardware to include colour calibration, light meters, screens and any other kit needed to produce great work.
We’ve also added a specialist lighting class to include bulbs, practicals and tube lights, while a USB class has been added to the microphone section to reflect the boom in podcasting.
Filmmaking is about far more than cameras, so the awards also celebrate the companies and services supporting creators behind the scenes, from software platforms and rental specialists to training providers and production services.
As always, every vote counts. Whether you’re passionate about your favourite cinema camera, rely on a particular lens every day or have discovered a piece of kit that genuinely improved your workflow, now is your chance to support the products and brands making a real difference to filmmakers.
Voting is open and every filmmaker is encouraged to take part. The winners will be revealed in a special Pro Moviemaker feature later this year.
How to vote for Gear of the Year 2026
Voting is simple – and you don’t even have to register. The survey is up now and will run until 4 September, so you’ve got plenty of time to consider what you want to pick.

You can vote in as few or as many categories as you like, and it doesn’t have to be all of them. Everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw, and the first name pulled out at random will win a case of wine.
