Apple ProRes RAW recording from Panasonic LUMIX GH5S for Ninja V and Ninja V+

Posted on Jun 11, 2021 by Pro Moviemaker

Atomos and Panasonic have announced that Apple ProRes RAW recording from the Panasonic LUMIX GH5S camera is now available for the Ninja V and Ninja V+.

The Panasonic LUMIX GH5S is a well-established and popular compact camera geared for video shooting, and this new update will allow for its existing user base to benefit from up to 4K DCI p60 ProRes RAW and 3.7Kp60 anamorphic RAW recordings when combined with the Ninja V or Ninja V+.

Users will benefit from up to 4K DCI ProRes RAW and 3.7Kp60 anamorphic RAW recordings

The Ninja V and new Ninja V+ allows users to accurately monitor the RAW signal, thanks to a daylight-viewable 5″ 1000nit brightness HDR screen, with the choice of HLG and PQ (HDR10) formats. There Ninja V family also offers touchscreen access to tools like waveforms, 1-1 magnification and focus peaking – ideal for perfecting RAW video files. The ProRes RAW data is then recorded onto a removable AtomX SSDmini, or similar SSD drive, which can then be connected to a computer via USB for immediate offload and editing.

Atomos founder, Jeromy Young, said: “I’m excited to be bringing the Panasonic LUMIX GH5S to the ProRes RAW eco-system, which allows existing GH5S users to up their game by enabling ProRes RAW and upgrading their workflow.”

Both the Ninja V and Ninja V+ now support ProRes RAW with free AtomOS Firmware 10.66 when combined with the GH5S. There is also a separate free firmware upgrade currently available for the GH5S – full details can be found on the Panasonic LUMIX website.
