New Lightweight LUMIX Lens from Panasonic

Posted on Jun 4, 2021 by Pro Moviemaker

Panasonic has announced a new lightweight lens for its Lumix S series

The new Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 (S-S50) is the second addition to the series of four f/1.8 large-aperture lenses based on the L-Mount system standard. Suitable for a variety of subjects – ranging from portraiture to landscape photography – the Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 also excels in professional-quality video recording performance, with a mechanism to suppress focus breathing, combined with a micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure change.

The combination of these elements allows for high descriptive performance and beautiful bokeh, as well as significant reductions in chromatic aberration

Comprising nine lens elements in eight groups – including three aspherical lenses, one ED (extra-low dispersion) lens and one UHR (ultra-high refractive index) lens. The combination results in significant reductions in chromatic aberration. In addition, the nine-blade circular aperture diaphragm of the lens produces soft round shapes in the blurred background areas of open-aperture footage.

At approximately 300g, the weight of the Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 lens makes it easy to take along to any shoot. The rugged design of the lens is also suitable for use in harsh weather conditions, and is able to withstand temperatures down to -10°C.

The new Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 is available by the end of June, with an RRP of £429, and is a qualifying product for the Lumix Pro programme.
