Sigma pushes boundaries with fast 135mm prime

Posted on Sep 9, 2025 by Adam Duckworth

The acclaimed Sigma Art line expands with the groundbreaking 135mm f/1.4 DG for unmatched bokeh plus fast AF

Sigma has announced the £1649 135mm DG  Art, the world’s first autofocus 135mm lens to achieve a maximum aperture of f/1.4. Designed exclusively for full-frame mirrorless cameras, and available in Sony E and L-Mount, the lens has a blend of precision optics, extraordinary bokeh and professional-grade features.

Portrait specialists will relish the huge bokeh generated by the bright aperture. Sigma says the lens produces an effective aperture diameter even greater than its famed 105mm f/1.4 “Bokeh Master,” while rivalling the creamy blur of its 200mm f/2 Sports lens. A 13-blade rounded diaphragm, advanced aspherical processing and thorough correction of chromatic aberration ensure that bokeh remains smooth and natural from centre to edge.

Optical quality is equally impressive. Four FLD elements and high-dispersion glass minimise aberrations, delivering crisp subject detail even wide open. A floating focus system guarantees consistent sharpness throughout the focusing range, while Sigma’s coatings reduce flare and ghosting for high-contrast results in backlit conditions.

To capture fleeting expressions, Sigma has fitted the lens with a dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) autofocus system. Each of the two focus groups has its own HLA, ensuring both the thrust required for large-aperture telephotos and rapid, precise AF performance.

The lens also includes pro-level handling features: two assignable AFL buttons, an aperture ring with lock and click options and weather-resistant sealing with oil- and water-repellent coatings. A magnesium-alloy Arca-Swiss tripod collar provides stability during extended shoots.

Despite its advanced optics, the lens weighs a manageable 1430g. Supplied accessories include a hood, tripod socket, pouch and protective cover.
