Mitakon Macro brings the tiny world closer

Posted on Aug 14, 2025 by Adam Duckworth

The ZY Optics Mitakon macro lens offers a class-leading magnification range at a very tempting price

ZY Optics has introduced the Mitakon 55mm f/2.8 1-5X Macro, a versatile close-up lens designed for both full-frame and medium format cameras. Offering an impressive magnification range from life-size 1X to a remarkable 5X, it’s aimed at image makers keen to capture everything from delicate flowers to microscopic textures in exceptional detail.

Its optical design – 13 elements in 8 groups – promises razor-sharp results with vibrant, accurate colours across the entire focus range. Crucially, the lens also offers a class-leading working distance, giving photographers more space for lighting and composition.

Built to last, the Mitakon features a robust metal body, detachable Arca-Swiss lens support, integrated LED illumination and a 58mm filter thread. It’s available in a wide choice of mounts including Sony E, Canon RF/EF, Nikon Z/F, Fujifilm GFX/X, L Mount, and Hasselblad XCD.

Weighing 690g, the manual-focus lens is priced at $399, making it a strong contender for serious macro shooters looking for premium performance at a budget-friendly price. No UK price has yet been announced
