Sony expands its Camera Authenticity Solution to cover video with powerful tools to verify footage and fight digital manipulation
Sony has expanded its Camera Authenticity Solution to include video verification, marking a major step in the company’s effort to protect content integrity in the age of AI.
Previously limited to still images, the system now enables news organisations to confirm that video footage was captured by a physical camera rather than generated or altered digitally. Using proprietary metadata – including 3D depth information – the technology can accurately verify real scenes, while a new trim function allows efficient validation of specific video clips without breaking authenticity signatures.
The rollout also includes support for the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standard, ensuring compliance with industry-wide frameworks for transparent and traceable digital content.
Sony’s PXW-Z300, the first camera built for video authenticity, will be joined by the A1 II, A9 III, FX3 and FX30, which now embed authenticity data directly into video files. Additional support for the A7R V, A7 IV, A1 and A7S III will follow through 2026.
The update integrates with Sony’s Ci Media Cloud, displaying digital signature information for verified footage. Developed with input from the BBC’s R&D Department, the initiative aims to preserve trust in visual journalism as AI-generated imagery becomes increasingly sophisticated.
