Autofocus breaks into the cine world with Sigma

Posted on Dec 17, 2025 by Pro Moviemaker

Sigma’s 28-45mm T2 FF debuts the brand’s AF Cine Line, combining pro-level cine design with fast, near-silent autofocus for filmmaking

The 28-45mm T2 FF is the first lens in Sigma’s brand-new AF Cine Line which brings autofocus to professional cinema optics. Available in L-Mount and E-mount, the lens represents a major milestone and adapts the optical design of the Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art stills lens into a cine housing, yet retains AF, changing from AF to manual focus via a switch on the barrel.

This £2599/$3399 Sigma lens combines pro-grade mechanical construction with autofocus using Sigma’s High-response Linear Actuator (HLA). This proprietary system delivers fast, precise and near-silent focusing, so is ideal for capturing action, working on gimbals or following unpredictable subjects when shooting documentary work.

The mechanical build reflects cinema standards, with industry-standard 0.8M pitch gears, a clickless aperture ring and a limited-rotation focus ring. The lens maintains a constant T2 aperture across the zoom range and features an 11-blade diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus rendering. Weighing just 1.2kg/2.76lb, it has a front diameter of 95mm.
