DJI RS 5 debuts as a lightweight commercial gimbal

Posted on Feb 6, 2026 by Nicole Tilby

Built for modern videographers, the DJI RS 5 combines advanced stabilisation with the RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module for more reliable tracking

Beyond its drone range, DJI continues to develop its imaging lineup with the launch of the RS 5. The lightweight Ronin Series gimbal introduces improved subject tracking, revised stabilisation and longer battery performance.

First introduced with the RS 4 Mini, the latest generation of the RS Intelligent Tracking Module allows videographers to frame live footage and track any subject right from the gimbal’s touchscreen. The new module also provides the ability to track objects other than people and can maintain locked focus on a human subject up to ten metres away. Additionally, if the subject leaves the frame, the module can easily lock back onto them, ensuring efficiency during a shoot.

Weighing just 1.46kg with the battery grip and quick release plates, RS 5’s compact body can carry a payload of up to 3kg. It also switches to vertical shooting without needing extra accessories, ensuring flexibility and ease. Meanwhile, the gimbal’s RS Stabilisation Algorithm ensures greater stability in fast-moving scenes and significantly improves stability when shooting vertically.

There’s no need for an adapter with this magnetic module, meaning videographers of every level can achieve surround shots, reverse tracking or single-person fixed-camera tracking with ease.

Built for long shooting days, the RS 5 features an Electronic Briefcase Handle that supports comfortable low- and high-angle operation, while an on-screen Z-Axis Indicator helps users adjust their movement to minimise shake. It also charges in one hour and delivers up to 14 hours of runtime, reducing downtime on set.

Camera compatibility has been broadened with this update, with Bluetooth shutter control now supporting select Panasonic and Fujifilm models. The RS 5 also integrates with DJI’s wider ecosystem, including Focus Pro Motors for remote focus and zoom, and SDR Transmission for live monitoring and control.

The standalone DJI RS 5 is priced at £485, while the DJI RS 5 Combo retails for £619 and adds the RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module, one Electronic Briefcase Handle, one L-Shaped Cable and a Carrying Case.
