Mavis is on the Atomos Ninja Phone

Posted on Aug 14, 2025 by Adam Duckworth

Content creators can now pair Ninja Phone with the Mavis Camera app for expanded device compatibility, pro monitoring and seamless camera-to-cloud integration

The popular Mavis Camera app for iPhone has added full support for Atomos Ninja Phone, unlocking new workflow possibilities for content creators and expanding compatibility to a much wider range of devices.

The update means Ninja Phone can now connect professional cameras and lenses via HDMI to almost any iPhone or iPad running iOS 18, not just the latest Pro models. This opens the door for older devices to be repurposed as part of a professional workflow, extending their lifespan and aligning with Atomos’ sustainability ethos.

Pairing an iPhone with a professional camera offers significant benefits in both image quality and productivity. Creators can record high-resolution video on their main camera while the iPhone simultaneously captures and uploads proxy files, or use the setup to live stream to popular social media platforms, RTMP or SRT endpoints.

The integration also introduces a much-requested external record trigger feature, allowing the Mavis app to start recording H.265 or H.264 files in sync with the external camera – perfect for social media delivery or cloud upload.

Mavis’ recently launched v7 update already offers extensive manual and auto controls for recording formats, frame rates, white balance, and focus, alongside pro-level monitoring tools like focus peaking, false colour, zebras, waveform and vectorscope. Full auto mode is available for fast setup situations.

Ninja Phone is a 10-bit video encoder that bridges HDMI-equipped cameras with iPhones or iPads. Together with Mavis, users can record or stream in ProRes, H.265 or H.264, depending on device capabilities.

The Mavis Camera app is a free download from the App Store, with optional in-app purchases such as Adobe Frame.io integration, advanced audio mixing, and multitrack ISO recording. Ninja Phone is priced at £199/ $199 is available from Atomos.
