Samyang launches first zoom lens for E-Mount mirrorless cameras

Posted on Oct 19, 2021 by Alex Fice

The AF 24-70mm f/2.8 FE is designed for E-mount 35mm full-frame and APS-C mirrorless cameras

Samyang is marking its 50th anniversary with its first ever all-in-one zoom lens. The lens captures high-resolution stills and video, recognising the increasing demand from consumers for lenses that cater to video as well as photography. With this in mind, Samyang has designed the AF 24-70mm f/2.8 FE to incorporate functions available with existing professional Cine lenses. This innovative approach is an attempt to push the boundaries within an already competitive marketplace for lenses with similar focal length ranges.

The AF 24-70mm f/2.8 FE includes features that are optimised for video shooting. It boasts a feature that maintains focus on the subject when zooming in and out, something that is usually only found in the most expensive cine zoom lenses. It also incorporates cinematic video AF, which is carefully controlled during video recording to reduce focus wobble and guarantee stable footage. For added convenience, the lens also incorporates a Linear MF Focus Control feature that matches the torque of the focus ring closely to that of a manual focus lens when shooting video in manual mode. The lens is compatible with Samyang’s ‘Cine Kit’ (available to purchase separately), which comprises focus gearing, follow focus and a tripod mount, to support your filming setup.

Users can make the most of the bright f/2.8 aperture to achieve a soft, blurred background that contrasts with the subject of the image by using a shallow depth of field and ultra-wide angle. The lens also incorporates nine diaphragm blades which can create smooth, natural bokeh with light splitting.

A custom switch offers enhanced control when adjusting the aperture using the focus ring. The optional Lens Station can be used to set up the mode that best suits your needs. Other functions will be added over time through firmware updates.

The lens offers a quick, accurate and silent AF system powered by Samyang’s Linear STM (Stepping Motor) – a great asset to any filmmaker working in an environment that demands silent camera operation.

The lens is protected from the elements by a weather-proof design, allowing users to take this lens with them to shoots in even the most challenging of environments.
